Hey Affamole,
Suddenly when it turned on my PC this morning my wireless adapter said it could not be recognized, occasionally the internet losses it connection so i have to re-connect it but it said this usb device is not recognized and again had to re-install it. Is there a way to fix this that you know of?

Thanks Cognito

Hi Cognito,

First I need to know what type of wireless system you are using.

Then I need to know the specs of your computer including operating system.

It sounds like you might have a driver issue which in most cases can be resolved by downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer's web sites.

Hi,
Ok firstly my internet system is Lynksys internet gateway. ummm i run windows xp. i'll try get you the spec of my pc at the moment i'm having to use a different PC as now it will not connect at all. When i checked the details of the wireless adapter i use which is a Belkin 802.1g - 54 mbps adapter. it said that there are no drivers available for this adapter. i couldnt find a way to unistall it as it is not actually a program. I Hope this helps Please Tell me if you need any other informatio.

Thanks Cognito

*edit* when i plug the same adapter into my dads pc which uses the same adapter it still comes up with device not recognized. But when i take his adapter down to my PC and plug it in it makes three continuous rings like *beep beep beep*, which makes me think maybe i aceendently disabled my adapter when i was in the ' connect to' option and my screen fell over and hit a load of buttin then my internet went of right away, and never reconnceted. But it doesnt explain why it says device not recognised when i plug the secong adapter in which is the same as the on i use.

What anti-virus package are you using?

What firewall do you have?

Your wireless Belkin 802.1g - 54 mbps adapter as a modal name & number, what are they?

Does your pc have service pack 2 from microsoft?

Your Linksys internet gateway as a modal name & number, what are they?

Your anti-virus is not one that I would use, this is due to the high number of virus it fails to anything about.

Recommended anti-virus is AVG.

With your firewall, can't say much about it but it's not difficult to bypass, I recommend that you use BlackICE PC Protection, you might be lucky and find a few resellers still able to sell it.

With a few corrections, Cognito wrote:

What is buttin?

microsoft service pack 2, is a very important update for windows xp, it fixes a few issues, basically you need it.

I will get back to later tonight with details of where to download drivers for your adapter.

On reading through your last statement, you may have additional hard problems, that being your usb connectors may be damage, they are easily replaced.

Also your adapter itself may need replacing.

How long have you had this adapter for?

If it is less than one year, you should be able to get a replacement for free.

I've had it longer than a year, and also the adapter doesnt work in any ports so i would assume its the adapter itself. Am i right?

If you have descent motherboard then buy a pci wireless adapter, much better, uses less system resources, way faster than usb.

But that does depend on how many pci slots you have available. You only need one.

N.B. usb is not a communications port, it is design solely for addons ie joypads etc not a mouse.

I looked into buying a PCi one a while bk but when i was going to buy one after looking at the slot it would have had to fit into i could see ho on earth it would fit, as the sections weren't corresponding to the shape of the pci card.
Anyway i bought a new one and all is working fine. Really sorry if this was a waste of your time.
